The Multiply Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Bruce Enns as the next general director, effective May 16, 2022. Enns will give leadership to the mission agency of U.S. and Canadian Mennonite Brethren churches in reaching their joint vision, that the world may know Jesus.
“We are pleased to hear that Bruce has accepted this role,” says USMB Leadership Board chair Luke Haidle. “Our desire is to see Multiply thrive and God’s kingdom advance.”
CCMBC moderator Ron Penner says, “Bruce has a strong reputation as a servant leader and one who has led his church into mission. We look forward to working with him in his new role at Multiply.”
Enns brings a wealth of experience from his previous pastoral and leadership positions. For 17 years, Enns has served as lead pastor of Forest Grove Community Church, a multi-site church in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Under his leadership, the church developed numerous global partnerships with Multiply’s missional teams. Enns served as a member of the Multiply Board for 12 years and more recently as moderator of the Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches (CCMBC).
Enns and his wife, Lisa, will continue to live in Saskatoon and will schedule regular in-person time in Canadian and U.S. offices and international travel as needed.
Enns was recommended by multiple people in the U.S. and Canada for the position and in early January the Board invited Enns into a mutual discernment process that began with prayer. The process involved several meetings, interviews and consultations.
In a May 6 letter announcing Enns’ appointment, Multiply Board of Directors chair Wendi Thiessen writes, “I am pleased to report that last week the Multiply Board unanimously voted to invite Bruce Enns to be our next general director, and he accepted the invitation.”
Thiessen thanks Vic Wiens for his work this past year as the interim general director.
“His calm demeanor, sense of humor, wisdom, wealth of experience and dedication to our Multiply family has proven invaluable,” she says. “He will continue to work as an advisor to Bruce and the Board until such time that he retires from Multiply in August 2022. Please join us in thanking Vic for his contribution to the mission of Multiply.”
Wiens is pleased to welcome Enns to the role. “I am deeply grateful and enthused with the appointment of Bruce Enns,” he says. “He brings a unique combination of mission vision, experience and shepherding to our team.”
Thiessen concludes the announcement with appreciation. “God is a gracious and generous provider,” she says. “As we make this announcement, we are thankful for his perfect timing and for the ongoing prayer and support of our MB family of churches. We are excited to work with Bruce and look forward to what he will bring to Multiply as together we follow God in his mission, making disciples, planting churches and reaching nations.”
Multiply is the global mission agency for North American Mennonite Brethren. The agency’s vision is church planting locally, nationally and globally.
