Spanish edition already in use
By Elmer Martens for ICOMB
José Elizondo, assistant Pacific District Conference minister, is smiling. Thanks to the Spanish translation of Knowing and Living Your Faith, the International Community of Mennonite Brethren (ICOMB) Confession of Faith study guide, Elizondo how has resources for in-service pastoral training for the 46-some Spanish-language MB churches in the United States.
Elizondo has already held sessions with Hispanic pastors, introducing them to the study manual with suggestions on how to use it. Elizabeth Thieszen, former missionary to Mexico, has assisted in some of the presentations.
Elizondo will be making contacts with the Latin American Mennonite Brethren Conference (LAMB) in Texas for possible pastoral workshops. Elizondo also travels to Omaha, Neb., occasionally and plans to have conversations with pastors there.
Rolando Neyra Alemán of Peru translated the ICOMB study guide and the printing was done in Paraguay.
The study guide, published in English in 2008, is currently available in German, French, Telegu and Spanish. Translations in Portuguese, Japanese and Russian are in process. Sixteen writers from the global MB church contributed commentary and questions as study helps for the Confession of Faith. The ICOMB confession was adopted in 2004 by the 19 member ICOMB conferences.
Copies of the 135-page study guide in the Spanish language are available for $9.00 plus shipping from the PDC office, 1717 S. Chestnut, Fresno, CA 93702. English copies are available from Kindred Productions.
