Record-setting earnings prompts grants, rebates
MB Foundation press release
While 2014 books will not be closed and audited for several months, it is clear that it will be a record-setting year for MB Foundation in terms of earnings. Rather than “building bigger barns,” the stewardship ministry for U.S. Mennonite Brethren decided to share these earnings with the denominational family.
“We want to put into practice our corporate passage (I Tim. 6:17-19) by being generous and willing to share,” says Jon C. Wiebe, president and CEO. “2 Corinthians 9:11 says that we are made rich so we can be generous. While none of us would call ourselves rich, we still want to share this blessing with our family.”
Three actions were taken by the MB Foundation Board of Directors in order to share the blessing:
- The annual firstfruits gift to USMB was increased from 10 percent to 11 percent.
- A one-time gift to the five USMB districts was made in the amount of $17,000 each for a total distribution of $85,000 in December 2014.
- A ministry rebate was issued to all MB ministry borrowers of record in 2014. This resulted in $200,000 being distributed back to borrowers.
“It is our hope that all of us can rejoice in God’s provision,” says Lynn Schneider, 2014 board chair. “We now challenge each ministry which receives a distribution to also prayerfully consider how to use the funds, being generous on every occasion.”
