Writer, Wheaton College instructor to edit inter-Mennonite quarterly devotional

Kindred Productions news release

Leslie Hawthorne Klinger, a Fuller Theological Seminary graduate and current Wheaton College instructor and freelance writer, is the new editor for Rejoice!, a daily devotional published quarterly by Kindred Productions and MennoMedia.

Leslie Hawthorne Klinger has accepted the position as contract editor for Rejoice!, a daily devotional co-published by Kindred Productions and MennoMedia. About 600 copies of Rejoice! are distributed to 28 USMB churches that subscribe to the quarterly devotional.

Hawthorne Klinger has been a regular devotional writer for Rejoice! for more than a decade. She began contributing while she and her husband, Tim, were Mennonite Central Committee workers in Central America. Hawthorne Klinger has since worked as communications manager for a Christian nonprofit and launched a freelance writing, editing and graphic design business. She has a masters in theology from Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, Calif.

Hawthorne Kinger currently teaches part-time at Wheaton College, Ill., serves on the board of her local Ten Thousand Villages store and is raising three school-age children. She and Tim have been members of Lombard Mennonite Church in Illinois since 1995.

“Leslie Hawthorne Klingler combines a vibrant spirituality with compassionate concern for the world,” says Wilbert Shenk, senior professor of mission history and contemporary culture, School of Intercultural Studies, Fuller Seminary.

“Leslie’s pieces always showed keen imagination and clear thinking, to say nothing of superb writing skill,” says Byron Rempel Burkholder, former Rejoice! editor, now managing book editor at MennoMedia. “Her cross-cultural and ministry experiences brought texture and color to her writing. I have found her to be as thorough and sharp as an editor as she is in her writing.”

Previous editor J Janzen concluded his tenure Dec. 20, 2013, to devote full-time attention to the growing Highland Community Church, Abbotsford, B.C., where he serves as pastoral elder.

Hawthorne Klinger began Jan. 6, 2014 and will work from her home in Illinois.

Kindred Productions is the North American Mennonite Brethren publishing ministry owned by the Canadian Conference of MB Churches. MennoMedia is owned and operated by the Mennonite Church and publishes books, periodicals and curricula under the name Herald Press.
