Pastor Mike Mathes of Beech Bottom Church in Newland, NC, and resident of Lake James Community, was determined to get to his church Feb. 14 after missing two Sunday services due too snowy weather. So when Gwaltney Road was blocked by a large fallen pine tree, Mathes got out his chain saw and got to work. And he made it to church on time.
