Position Summary

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range;  $85,000.00-$130,000.00 annually

The Associate Provost for Adult Learning leads Fresno Pacific University’s degree completion and continuing education programs ensuring academic rigor and program quality, student success, support and retention, and enrollment growth.  The AP for Adult Learning collaborates with academic deans, program directors, enrollment management, student life, registrar, student financial services, and the Associate Provost for Student Success and Retention to establish and maintain a cohesive and student-centered approach to teaching and learning, course design, delivery and scheduling, advising, technology support, and university policies.  The Associate Provost for Adult Learning will engage regional employers and partners, Fresno Pacific University faculty and staff on its main campus and 4 regional centers, and regional community colleges to meet the learning needs of the workforce and employers of California’s Central Valley through in-person, online, and hybrid degrees, certificates and continuing education.  The Associate Provost of Adult Learning will serve as an advocate for post-traditional learners through the creation and multiple credential pathways including transfer, credit for prior learning, and apprenticeships.   The Associate Provost for Adult Learning reports to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs and leads a team that includes the Director for the Center for Online Learning, the Director of Continuing Education, and the Degree Completion Program Coordinators.

Degree Completion

Fresno Pacific University offers degree completion programs through regional centers in Bakersfield, Visalia, North Fresno, and Merced.  The Associate Provost for Adult Learning will ensure the relevance and rigor of these programs, promote student learning and success, and support faculty and staff as they create meaningful and excellent student experiences.  The AP for Adult Learning will work with enrollment management, academic advisors, registrar, and student financial services to provide adult-friendly and efficient practices and policies for degree completion students.

Continuing Education

The AP for Adult Learning will lead the expansion of FPU’s continuing education offerings to meet workforce learning needs in California’s Central Valley.  The AP for Adult Learning will establish and maintain relationships with regional employers and offer programming that will enhance the skills and competence of the region’s workforce in order to create a vibrant and resilient economy and an engaged and healthy community.  The AP of Adult Learning will work with the FPU Office of Advancement to provide ongoing engagement with FPU alumni.

Inclusive Teaching and Learning

The AP for Adult Learning will serve as a champion for and expert in student-centered and inclusive andragogy by providing faculty development and instructional design support to FPU faculty.  In partnership with the AP for Student Success and Retention, the AP for Adult Learning will oversee the design and delivery of courses and programs to meet the learning needs of adult students and ensure their success and completion.

Duties:

  • Lead a cross-functional team of program directors and faculty to ensure program quality, academic rigor, and student success in degree completion and continuing education.
  • Oversee and guide the work of the Center for Online Learning (COL) to provide professional development on effective, culturally responsive, and student-centered andragogy for all faculty.
  • Lead the design and implementation of new programs with deans, faculty, and regional employers.
  • Ensure a cohesive and responsive network of student support and service through collaboration with the registrar, student financial services, academic success center, and regional campuses.
  • Lead the design and implementation of new continuing education programs.
  • Work with the deans and program directors to develop and staff a course schedule for all DC and continuing education programs.
  • Manage the budget and increase revenues for FPU through the expansion of DC and CE programs.
  • Work with the Registrar and Faculty Senate to develop policies and practices that diversity student pathways to degree completion including credit for prior learning and transfer.
  • Complete tasks timely with work that is comprehensive, complete, and accurate.
  • Communicates clearly, listens attentively, and seeks to understand others
  • Collaborates productively with colleagues of varying skillset
  • Other job duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree in an academic field or higher education.
  • Five years minimum higher education experience.
  • Experience working with adult learners.
  • Excellent organizational and coordinating ability.
  • Ability to collaborate, encourage, and inspire a common vision across multiple departments and schools.
  • Travel to regional centers.

Preferred:

  • Terminal degree in an academic field or higher education

Environmental Conditions:

  • Indoors in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes at least eighty percent (80%) of the time.
  • Frequent computer use at a workstation, up to eight hours per day.
  • Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
  • Drive personal or University vehicles to appointments.
  • Public contact position requiring professional apparel, personal hygiene, and grooming.

Physical Demands:

  • This position typically functions indoors in an office environment with light to moderate noise associated with business office equipment. The position may involve travel for meetings and events.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: remain in a stationary position 80 % of the time, be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets/office machinery etc., operate a computer and keyboard and other office productivity machinery such as calculators/copy machines/printers. The employee is occasionally required to position self to reach items on the floor and in high cabinetry.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Employee must be able to communicate with others to exchange information including both over the telephone and in-person communication with callers and community members and be able to read a computer screen and paper documents.
