Tabor College has completed its $1.5 million challenge grant from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation of Tulsa, Oklahoma, the college announced Dec. 5. The grant was issued in support of the college’s newest residence hall, which is set to house 86 students at the start of the 2023-24 academic year.
“We are touched by the generosity of our donors and the Tabor community,” President David Janzen says. “Reaching this goal in just over seven months is a testament to their belief in the work God is doing on our campus and in the lives of our students.”
Led by Ron Braun, vice president of philanthropy, Tabor’s Advancement staff raised the required $2,236,229 since the groundbreaking on May 6. The completion of the funds comes nearly five months before the original expiration date of April 12, 2023.
“We are grateful for the work done by Ron and his team and the commitment of the Mabee Foundation to make this achievement possible,” Janzen says. “Their support of residence life will transform our campus for generations to come.
The building will add 28 double rooms, 12 single rooms and six triple rooms to campus housing. It is located on the corner of Adams and B Street, just southeast of Dakota Hall and to the northeast of the Business Studies building.
The grant was the seventh given to Tabor since the library’s addition in 1983. It is the second in support of residence halls, including the Townhouses, in 2006.
